HOUSE RACE

Ohio 3rd District

Solid D

Ohio's 3rd congressional district, centered on Columbus, is one of the more firmly held Democratic seats in the Midwest. Cook Political Report rated it Solid D as of August 25, 2026, a classification consistent with a district baseline that leans Democratic by roughly 42 points relative to the national average. Polling from June 2026 showed the Democratic candidate leading by 6 points, though that margin is narrower than the structural lean suggests and worth watching as the November contest takes shape. Columbus is not a backwater in the concentrated-power conversation. The city's economy is anchored by Nationwide Insurance, OhioHealth, and a fast-growing data-center corridor that has drawn billions in capital from firms including Google and Amazon. Those investments bring jobs and tax revenue; they also bring questions about labor classification, utility-rate subsidies, and local zoning decisions that flow through Columbus City Hall and, increasingly, through the district's congressional delegation. Whoever holds this seat holds a platform on those questions inside the House. The incumbent-party hold here is not in genuine doubt given the structural numbers, but the 6-point polling margin, if it holds, would represent a real underperformance relative to the district's baseline. Whether that reflects a nationalized political environment pressing on urban Democratic margins, or something more specific to the candidates, the Columbus electorate will answer that in November.
